I’m not usually one to drool over sneakers or opt for rainbow tops. But when it does happen, I only go for the best; no tie-dye in sight.
Casual street style can be one of the hardest things to pull off. So how do we find that perfect balance between sophistication and an urban, raw edge? The answer varies every day and every season, but one of my favourite tips is to keep it simple and stay comfortable. For a day out in winter, avoid too many suffocating layers and keep the jewellery minimal. The texture and intense colours of this top are the focal point of the outfit. I have used the solidity of the denim, along with the colour blocking in the accessories and shoes to serve as a foundation for the top to hold on to.
As spring approaches, colour is beginning to find its way back into my wardrobe. It makes me happy to be able to walk along in the wind and only be slightly chilly rather than almost-passing-out-because-I-can’t-breathe. And walk I did, in my fabulous new Nike tennis sneakers. Maybe bounce is the better term to use, as I was so afraid to ruin their beautiful white glow. My mum wore the exact same shoes back in her 80s disco days (they seem to come up on my blog quite often) and I love that they have sustained their hold over us all for so long.
To me, this outfit is the epitome of casual cool. It is easy to wear, easy to move around in and easy to reconstruct with a personal twist. Often underestimated in fashion spheres, true, every day street style is a force to be reckoned with, when done right.
But still, no tie-dye allowed in my wardrobe.
