Today I discovered my hidden talent for unpicking and my love for artfully messy rooms. I spent the larger part of the day in Bianca Spender’s design room, across the hallway from Carla’s, where I was given an endless pile of blazers to unpick, because of an issue concerning shrinking fabric and growing lining. My head brimming with dread at tackling the blazers, I reluctantly picked up my first blazer and my glamorous glittery unpicker. Surprisingly, unpicking is therapeutic. There’s a beat you can get into when your surrounded by the beauty of the design room. With the same arched windows and vintage-looking tables, the walls of Bianca’s room are filled with printed photos, as inspiration and muse. Towards the end of the day is where the panic began. Wholesale needed some help in checking, tagging and confirming some garments to be sent off to stockists in the UK. The elegant meeting room was filled with tags, flying pens and ribbon to be cut.

In the fashion industry, life is never boring. There is always something to do in some department, which is always part of the larger design and production process. Everything contributes towards a single end result, and every single person is essential to allow things to run with flow.

My first experience of overtime ended in a box of Ferrero Rochers from our manager. Not too shabby. I’m definitely not looking forward to walking out of the Carla Zampatti/Bianca Spender doors for the last time tomorrow.

Love, Ingrid
