New year, New you?

On New Year’s day, our population is split into two approximate halves:
The legitimate ‘New Year, New Me’ enthusiasts, and those who give it up on day 1.
I confess that I am an outlier who belongs to neither the former, nor the latter group. The term ‘New Year resolutions’ is one that briefly crosses my mind and I have a quick think about how I will try to live my days as a super-organised, stress-less, well-rested student who manages to throw in a blog post a week. But that’s no different to the little self-reflections and goal-setting sessions I have in my mind pretty much every day, because that’s how humans work; we always want to improve our lifestyle to be happier.
So I suppose I’m saying that for me, New Year’s resolutions don’t really have to be made on the 1stJanuary. There are no time restrictions for goal setting and self-evaluation, because these are things which are constantly changing and evolving as time goes on; our resolutions might change halfway through the year. However, departure of 2015 and rolling in of 2016 gives us a clean slate to work on and provides a nice ‘official’ foundation to construct our resolutions upon. So when I received a ‘Track Your Habits’ book from Kikki K for Christmas, I knew that for the first time in my life, I was going to make some resolutions to start on the 1/1/16, partly because it looks better all in the one year, and partly because I wanted to jump on the ‘New Year, New Me’ bandwagon.
Basically, it’s a little A7 size (I had to google that) book where each page leaves space for you to write a habit, the starting date of the habit and tickboxes to record how you’re going each day with keeping it up. The philosophy is that it takes 66 days to change a habit, and so the pages record your progress for 66 tickboxed days to give you a sense of accomplishment. The good thing about the book is that there are lots of pages, and you can start your habit on any day you choose, which means you can add anything you want at any time you want. If you are like me, and like ticking things off on to-do lists, I highly recommend buying one of these books. Anything from Kikki K is a win anyway.
Enough talking about New Year and 2016; it’s time for us all to start work on our resolutions.
Love, Ingrid
