beach wear

Beach wear is one of my absolute favourite styles to work with. The versatility is astounding; colourful, black and white, swimwear, layered, flowing, short, long, sexy, conservative. Yes, I sound like a lame little beach wear pocket dictionary, and I’m not afraid to show it.
As an ex-sceptic of one piece bathers as well as flares (back when I was going through my skinny jeans and a t-shirt every day phase – let’s not talk about that), this look seemed to contradict my every (year 6 me) bodily function. However, I pulled myself together with a slap on the back and decided to brave the blue skies and glassy waters of St Kilda beach dressed in floral flare pants on top of some white swimmers. There you have it; it sounds quite horrific and clash-tastic when put that way. But for some reason, this backless one piece with geometrical mesh inserts matches the lines of the light, vividly coloured pants.
The result is almost balletic in its lengthy aesthetic. Line correlates to an arabesque just as the flow from the shoulders all the way down to the toes in this outfit is essential to creating that elegant, powerfully feminine look. To me, the gradually widening pants extend the leg line and accentuate the effect of the backless top. Effortless to wear and amazingly comfortable, I can see this look taking you from a day on the beach to a relaxed dinner out, all the way back home.
Next time, rather than chucking your Bintang Bali singlet on over your bikinis for the sake of ease, why not have a go at developing a DSLR worthy combination of texture and shape. Or that singlet is fine too. The point is, with the Australian beach culture existing as an iconic place for fashion to be flaunted and tans to be got, nothing is ever too outrageous. The Australian beach bum has developed to a whole new level of cool.
