bather enthusiast

I’m not entirely sure why, but since I was a little 5 year old kid, I have had an unhealthy obsession with bathers. Admittedly, I did go through a baggy old rash vest and bikini ‘skirt’ phase (please forgive me), but I got on the road to recovery and could now proudly call myself a member of bikini-holics anonymous.

All lame jokes aside, I really am being quite serious about my love of bathers. It is one of those subjective things; some people don’t get it, but there are others who I can rant about bathers with for hours. Perhaps it has something to do with my favourite season; summer. Constant sweat and sunburn beats shivering with the heater on any day in my book. There is something about the warmth of the sun on my skin, of the sound of waves on the sand, and memories of happy days filled with salty hair and sandy feet spent with family and friends, that resonates in me all year. It is a cliché, but one of the only ones which is actually accurate.

The beach and the pool are such integral aspects of this sense of summer nostalgia that bathers also come hand in hand with the image of summer. Gone are the days of the limited choice between an 80s one piece or high waisted bikini set (bound to be striped or polka-dotted). Lately, bathers have developed into a sort of art form. You have the classic bikinis, the classy one-piece, you have structured or skimpy, low-cut, halter neck, hundreds of different shapes. You have boho, colourful, contemporary. There’s a whole world of options out there for every bather enthusiast, and I’m the one who sounds like that crazy lady on AbCircle Pro ads, promoting them.

Zimmermann is definitely a label which has jumped onto the bather bandwagon with gusto. Embracing the design of bathers with all the detail and thought that goes into designing outer garments, this label truly encapsulates the glow of summer, in an incredibly luxury way. This is the first in my one piece collection, which I hope to expand. It simply screams luxury, with its almost-fluorescent white effervescence, and backless elegance.

Judging by the length of this swimwear rant, I really can identify bathers as one of my passions. Maybe that obsession isn’t quite so unhealthy. *So ladies, slather on the sunscreen, slip on that summery swimwear and skip your way into summer.

Love, Ingrid

*I think I should win an award for the most times someone has used the letter s in a single sentence. Still at it.
