Bask

Verb

1. Lie exposed to warmth and light, typically from the sun, for relaxation and pleasure.

2. Revel in and make the most of (something pleasing).

It’s a strange thing, but the word ‘bask’ inspired me in planning and carrying out this shoot. The idea of being surrounded by sunlight and of feeling the unique warmth of the sun spreading across my skin appeals to me so much, and as we progress into true summer days, I wanted to do this post as a rite of passage from pale legs and fuzzy pj socks to days of lounging in dappled sunlight. To me, that is the true highlight of summer; the warmth of revelling, of basking in the sun. Minus the burn (remember to slip slop and slap).

The beauty of this warmth is something that is truly difficult to capture in words and I think the word bask does it pretty well. With many associations to positive and intangible concepts – ‘bask in the glory’, ‘bask in the joy’ – rather than solid objects, the word sums up the happiness associated with being in the sun.

After writing two and a half paragraphs about basking in sunlight, I think it’s about time for me to let it go and move on. So I will go on to mention that this glorious white top and skort set is an outfit which exudes a sense of carefree days spent in the sun. The feminine frill detailing along the sleeves and hem is counter-balanced by the simplicity of the white-on-white and the gorgeous cotton. The loose fit of the tunic style top contrasts well over the (very short) skort. It is everything from feminine, to dainty, to free, to comfortable. Although I am wearing no colour whatsoever, it doesn’t seem to matter. The white and black don’t seem monotonous or cold, as instead, they are complemented by the lush nature surrounding me, and the light of the sun.

To put it simply, I like to bask in style.

Love, Ingrid
