autumn

I never thought one outfit could be so many things at the same time.

This one is slightly risky; the clean cut of the top, in contrast with the laid-back, rustic aesthetic of the skirt, in contrast with the daring gold of the boots. The deep neckline is edgy, but the warm colour invokes a more sophisticated balance. The stitching in the skirt is miraculously the same colour as the top, which ties the garments together; a tiny detail which is barely noticeable at first glance. These small and subtle aspects which pull an outfit together allow us to mix and match in a more daring way.

In Melbourne, autumn can be extremely cold, extremely sunny (and thus hot), or an annoying mix of both which makes getting out of the bed seem like a chore; what are we supposed to do when jeans are too warm but shorts are too cold? But today was one of those gorgeous days where the air seemed fresher than usual. During the shoot, while I maniacally gesticulated at my mum while trying to pose and look chill, the sky broke out in this incredible sunset.

Maybe it’s a stupid analogy, but the way the colours in nature always complement each other can inspire us in the way we wear colours. The sky was pink and white and orange and blue, the grass was green, the trees were brown. But somehow it looked gorgeous anyway. We don’t always need to stick to the colour wheel to determine our outfits. Let’s spice autumn up with some crazy colours.

Love, Ingrid
